The fellowship program is diverse, with various placements and organizations. It's often considered a stepping stone into African development. Furthermore, it connects you with a passionate community of PiAf alumni. A Unique Experience The experience of each fellow varies significantly based on the placement and organization. Some fellows work closely with a supervisor or colleagues, while others work more independently. The work environment can also differ, with some fellows working in offices filled with local staff, and others working with a high number of expatriates. Furthermore, fellows' living situations range from urban hubs like Johannesburg and Nairobi to resource-constrained rural areas. We're devoted to cultivating young leaders dedicated to Africa's progress through yearlong fellowships across the continent. About Princeton in Africa: Our mission is to foster lasting connections between emerging leaders and African nations. We provide exclusive yearlong fellowships to recent college graduates placed in organizations across Africa. Our fellows contribute significantly to Africa's well-being and build meaningful community relationships through their work. Benefits of the Princeton in Africa Fellowship Fellowship organizations cover various on-the-ground expenses, including housing and a living stipend. Other benefits include visas/work permits, medical, medical evacuation, and security evacuation insurance. We also provide a pre-departure orientation for all fellows, housing and meals during the mid-year retreat in Africa, and a partial travel allowance to assist with travel to and from the retreat. Qualification Requirements It is important to note that there are different eligibility requirements for our general/flagship fellowship program and our Nexus program. Below are the outlined eligibility requirements for both programs: General/Flagship Fellowship Program Eligibility: Applicants should be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2024 during the application period. A bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or Ph.D. from a 4-year U.S.-accredited university is required. Complete professional English proficiency as per U.S. standards. Department of State is necessary. Proficiency in French is preferred at some posts. Age should not exceed 35 years for the entire fellowship year (until August 2025). A passport valid through the end of the fellowship year (August 2025) is required. Nexus Program Eligibility: Applicants should be young professionals or current undergraduates set to graduate by June 2024 during application. An undergraduate degree, Master's degree (or equivalent), or Ph.D. from an African university is required. Complete professional English proficiency as per U.S. standards. Department of State is necessary.French proficiency preferred in certain positions. Age should not exceed 35 years for the entire fellowship year (until August 2025). Citizenship in an African country and current residency in an African country are required (applicants with dual U.S. citizenship will not be considered). Attach your Resume or CV to the online application, limited to 2 pages. Include an Unofficial Transcript with English translation if needed, attached to the online application. Transcripts should be in PDF format, not exceeding 256KB. Arrange for an Official Transcript to be sent directly from your university to piafapp@princetoninafrica.org. Digital official transcripts, accompanied by an English translation if necessary, are accepted. Use secure online platforms or email for submission. Obtain One Letter of Recommendation from a recommender. They should submit it directly via the online form at https://fs8.formsite.com/princetoninafrica/LOR/index. Nexus Applicants Only University Enrollment Proof: Attach Proof of University Enrollment to the online application. Documents should be in English, in PDF format, and not exceed 256KB.Accepted Options: Official Enrollment Verification Document (with English translation if needed). Scanned Copy of Applicant's Diploma (with English translation if needed). A letter in English on university letterhead signed by a university official (such as a professor, advisor, registrar, or other administrator) verifying the applicant’s degree(s) earned. It is important to note that we cannot consider applications with missing, incomplete, or incorrect materials.
